Police reported that gang members were involved in two unrelated shootings in Ventura County over the weekend, including one in which a 17-year-old boy was wounded, authorities said Sunday.
Officers said they found Mel Gutierrez of Oxnard lying in the road in the 2600 block of Anchor Avenue in Port Hueneme bleeding from a gunshot wound about 9:48 p.m. Saturday. Officials said the incident was gang-related. No suspects have been arrested.
Gutierrez told police he was wounded when fighting broke out at a party that had been crashed by several people.
He was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released, a nursing supervisor said.
Gang members were responsible for a drive-by shooting about 10:15 p.m. in the unincorporated area of El Rio, sheriff’s Lt. Joe Funchess said. Witnesses said shots were fired at an unoccupied vehicle from a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo carrying four or five people in the 3300 block of Simon Way. No one was injured.
