Singer Gloria Estefan will be released from a Manhattan hospital Wednesday to continue her rehabilitation from a broken back at home, a hospital spokeswoman said today.

Estefan had two steel rods implanted in her back March 22 at the Orthopedic Institute Hospital for Joint Diseases, and has been recovering at the facility since then, said hospital spokeswoman Mary Costello. The rods were to help her two broken vertebrae to heal.

The operation came one day after she was injured when her tour bus collided with a tractor-trailer in northeast Pennsylvania. Doctors said after surgery that it would take the Cuban-born performer up to six months to fully recover.

Estefan, 32, was nominated for a Grammy this year for “Don’t Wanna Lose You,” a song from her solo album.
