Estefan to Leave Hospital: Singer Gloria Estefan will be released from a Manhattan hospital Wednesday to continue her rehabilitation from a broken back at home. Estefan had two steel rods implanted in her back on March 22 at New York’s Orthopedic Institute Hospital for Joint Diseases, and has been recovering at the facility since then. The rods were to help two fractured vertebrae heal; they were injured when her tour bus collided with a tractor-trailer. Doctors said it would take the performer up to six months to recover.
