Navarro a Relief in Aztec Victory Over Cal Baptist
Rick Navarro struck out five batters in four innings of relief and picked up the victory as San Diego State defeated visiting Cal Baptist, 14-4, in a nonconference baseball game Monday at Smith Field.
Jeff Barry stole three bases, drove in two runs, hit a solo home run and went two for five for the Aztecs (23-12). Teammate Scott Dennison scored three times, and doubled twice.
Rodney Gaines (6-1) was tagged with his first loss for Cal Baptist (22-7).
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Tonya Fuller, playing No. 1 singles for the University of San Diego, upset Oklahoma State’s Monia Waniek, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, but the 12th-ranked Cowboys (12-5) defeated USD, 5-2.
Fuller improved her individual record to 16-7 with the victory over 31st-ranked Waniek. Sakolwan Kacharoen was the other winner, at No. 3 singles, for No. 17 USD (9-9).
