Is Something Wrong When the Best Team Wins the NCAA Title?
I can’t believe Allan Malamud’s comments concerning Jerry Tarkanian’s lack of recognition as a winning coach. Everybody recognized Jerry as a great winner at (Cal State) Long Beach until the NCAA discovered how this was being accomplished. Long Beach went on probation, and Mr. Tarkanian hightailed it to the only state whose judges would bend, fold and mutilate the rules enough so that the NCAA couldn’t touch him.
I’m surprised that Mr. Malamud left out what a shame it is that Lloyd Daniels wasn’t there to share the honors with his teammates.
