Mark Lamb scored 4:21 into overtime Friday night at Edmonton to give the Oilers a 3-2 victory and even their best-of-seven series, 1-1, with the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jets, who beat the Oilers, 7-5, Wednesday night, dominated for two periods. Goals by Brent Ashton and Paul Fenton gave them a 2-0 lead in the first period and rookie Stephane Beauregard was brilliant in goal. He stopped 14 shots in the first 40 minutes.

But the Oilers’ Craig Simpson scored his third goal of the playoffs at 3:09 of the third period and 10 minutes later, Joe Murphy knocked in a rebound to tie it.

Four minutes into overtime Jari Kurri gave Lamb a pass and he burst between defensemen Dave Ellett and Frederick Olausson and fired his game-winning shot from 15 feet.

The victory was the Oilers’ 19th in 21 playoff games between the two teams. But three of the next four games, if necessary, will be played in Winnipeg.

The Oilers are hoping their No. 1 goaltender, Grant Fuhr, will be ready for Game 3 on Sunday night.

St. Louis 4, Toronto 2--Brett Hull is developing a fondness for Stanley Cup competition that must make his father, Bobby Hull, proud.

Hull, who scored the first goal in the Blues’ opening victory Wednesday night, had a goal and two assists at St. Louis to give the Blues a 2-0 lead in the series.

During the regular season, the Blues outshot the Maple Leafs, 319-218, but lost seven of the eight games.

The North Stars jumped to a 3-0 lead and chased goaltender Greg Millen. But Ed Belfour came in to stop the North Stars for the last 48 minutes.

Belfour, who had not played in an NHL game this season, faced only 15 shots.
