BASEBALL ’90 PREVIEW : PADRES ON TV AND RADIO

TV ANNOUNCERS

Jerry Coleman: Coleman, entering his 18th season broadcasting the Padres, will work KUSI television and radio games. As a player with the New York Yankees, he was American League rookie of the year (1949), World Series MVP (1950) and an American League All-Star (1950). Before coming to the Padres, Coleman spent some time in the broadcast booths of the Yankees and Angels. He is also entering his 15th season of work with the CBS Radio Network.

Rick Monday: Monday is back for his second season with the Padres after getting his broadcasting start doing Dodger cable games and serving as sports anchor for KTTV in Los Angeles. Monday will join Coleman for both TV and radio games.

RADIO ANNOUNCERS

Bob Chandler: Chandler began broadcasting Padre games in 1972, though he took one four-year break to serve as the team’s public relation director. He has also broadcast the Chargers, San Diego Clippers and San Diego State basketball and football. Chandler will broadcast San Diego Cable Sports television games as well as radio broadcasts on the road when Coleman and Monday are on television.

Ted Leitner: This is Leitner’s 11th season in the Padre broadcast booth. He will join Chandler on San Diego Sports Cable television games as well as radio broadcasts on the road when Coleman and Monday are on television.

SPANISH RADIO ANNOUNCERS

Gustavo Lopez Moreno: Moreno is an original, a Padre broadcaster since the club entered the National League in 1969. He has broadcast All-Star games, League Championship Series and World Series on the CBS Hispanic Network, which is beamed to 100 stations in the U.S. and Latin America. He is also the general manager of XEXX radio, the Padres’ flagship Spanish station.

Mario Thomas Zapiain: Zapiain enters his second decade of broadcasting the Padres in 1990. He was a member of the CBS Hispanic Network crew that announced the 1984 NL Championship Series.

Gustavo Lopez Jr.: Lopez Jr. joined the XEXX Padre radio team in 1985. During the winter, he broadcasts the Sockers for XEXX.

Eduardo Ortega: Ortega is entering his fourth season of broadcasting the Padres on XEXX. He works the majority of the Padre home games and travels through the season to call away games.
