One man was killed and six other people, including four children, were injured when a car ran a stop sign and hit another car broadside at an intersection near Palmdale, the California Highway Patrol reported today.

The CHP said a 58-year-old Littlerock man died about 8:20 p.m. Thursday after the car he was driving northbound on 110th Street went through a stop sign at Palmdale Boulevard and crashed into the side of a westbound car carrying five people.

The identity of the dead man was not released pending notification of his family. A passenger in his car, Michael Jackson, 35, of Littlerock, suffered major injuries.

In the other car, the driver, Steven Schroeder, 33, of Murrieta, Calif., also suffered major injuries. His passengers, Laura Schroeder, 31, Kimberly Schroeder, 1, Jamie Henderson, 10, and Kevin Henderson, 9, suffered minor to moderate injuries. All of the injured were treated at hospitals in the Antelope Valley, Officer Miguel Siordia said.

Siordia said it is unclear why the driver did not stop his car at the intersection. Alcohol did not appear to play a part in the accident, he said. Both Palmdale Boulevard and 110th Street are major thoroughfares in the area southeast of Palmdale, Siordia said.
