Jari Kurri scored just his second goal of the series with 6:50 left at Winnipeg Saturday night, and the Edmonton Oilers forced a seventh game in their first-round playoff series with a 4-3 victory over the Jets.

The Oilers can become the seventh team to win a Stanley Cup series after falling behind, 3-1, by winning Monday at Edmonton.

The Oliers never have won a series after falling behind by even 2-1.

Edmonton completely dominated play in the first period, scoring three times.

Mark Messier set up the first goal, by Esa Tikkanen, at 5:29, then stole the puck and scored unassisted at 9:50. Defenseman Randy Gregg’s goal made it 3-0.

The Jets appeared to be jittery, but the Oilers missed turning it into an early rout despite outshooting Winnipeg, 12-2.

Winnipeg scored a goal in the second period, but the Oilers appeared to have things under control when goalie Bill Ranford stopped 15 shots in the period.

But Doug Smail and Doug Evans scored before the middle of the final period to tie the score before Kurri turned the momentum back to the Oilers.

Minnesota 5, Chicago 3--The North Stars took an early lead at Bloomington, Minn., and hung on to even their best-of-seven series at three apiece.

The finale in this series will be held Monday night at Chicago, where the Blackhawks, Norris Division champions, will try to eliminate the fourth-place North Stars.

Perry Berezan and Neal Broten scored goals 83 seconds apart late in the first period to give the North Stars a 3-1 lead.
