Don Baylor, Nolan Cromwell, Steve Timmons and Paul Cleary have been elected to the Orange County Hall of Fame.

They will be inducted July 19 at the Hall of Fame’s 10th banquet at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. Their induction will increase the Hall’s membership to 48.

Baylor, a coach with the Milwaukee Brewers, played for the Angels from 1977 through 1982. He became the only Angel to win the American League’s Most Valuable Player Award when in ’79 he hit 34 home runs, had a team-record 139 runs batted in, and led the Angels to the AL West title.

Cromwell had an 11-year career (1977-87) as a defensive back with the Rams, with 778 tackles and 37 pass interceptions in 161 games. He was named four times to the Pro Bowl and was the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1980. An All-American at Kansas, Cromwell lives in Mission Viejo.

Timmons, who attended Newport Harbor High School and Orange Coast College before becoming a volleyball All-American at USC, was one of the key players on the U.S. Olympic team that won gold medals in 1984 and ’88. He was the team’s MVP in the ’84 Games.

Cleary, elected to the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame last year, was named Junior College Player of the Year in 1942. Cleary, an end, was co-captain at Santa Ana (now Rancho Santiago) College, the top-ranked team in the country.

He went on to USC, where he became a consensus All-American in 1947 and captain of the Trojans’ 1948 Rose Bowl team. Cleary, now a businessman in Orange, later played for the New York Yankees in the old All-American Football Conference.

Hall of Fame members must have played for, or been associated with an Orange County team, or lived in the county during the time he or she was participating.
