CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : VENTURA : Boy’s Alleged Slayer Pleads Not Guilty

Former child care worker Gregory Scott Smith pleaded not guilty to the murder of a Northridge boy whose gagged body was found burning in a field near Simi Valley on March 23. Smith, 21, could face the death penalty if convicted of murder, kidnaping and arson charges in the slaying of Paul Bailly, 8. Smith was ordered held without bail until a preliminary hearing June 4.
