Taxicab Driver Appearance Guidelines

Share

The Transportation Commission adopted a strict new dress code for

Los Angeles cab drivers that goes into effect on April 30. Violators will be cited and penalty points will be charged against their companies. Here’s how a taxicab driver should not dress. HATS

Shall be of an appropriate matching color, with or without company logo, and appropriate to the appearance standard of the company.

SHIRTS

Tails shall be appropriately “tucked in.” If the shirt is worn unbuttoned, then no more than two buttons at the neck shall be unbuttoned at any time.

PANTS/SKIRTS

Dark-colored trousers shall be neither shorts nor cutoffs, nor bib overalls nor leisure suits nor exercise (sweat) suits. Dress slacks are acceptable.

Jeans or Levis are discouraged. Dress or “designer” jeans or Levis may be acceptable depending on the over-all professional look of the driver.

Skirts shall be knee-length. Trousers or skirts may be various “dark” colors but shall be of a solid color without a bold print or plaid design. Trousers may be worn by men or women. Only women may wear skirts.

CONDITION

Clothing and shoes shall be neat and clean and in good repair without rips or tears. There shall be no missing buttons. Clothing shall not look “lived in” but appropriately clean and ironed or wrinkle-free.

GROOMING

Drivers shall be well groomed at all times while on duty. The hair (and facial hair) shall be neatly trimmed and combed. The body shall be without objectionable odors.

SHOES

Dark-colored shoes need not be leather. Shoes may not be open-toed, open-heeled, sandals, slippers, nor “thongs.” Lace-up walking shoes of a single dark color are acceptable. Shoes designed for polishing shall be polished and be without objectionable, inappropriate scuff marks.
