Champagneforashley Favored at Wood Race
Champagneforashley is the early favorite to win the Wood Memorial on Saturday at Aqueduct and go to the Kentucky Derby on May 5 unbeaten in six races.
The colt was one of 10 3-year-olds entered today for the 1 1/8-mile Wood. He was made the 6-5 choice. The co-second choice at 7-2 was Thirty Six Red, winner of the Gotham, and the entry of Senor Pete and Adversarial.
Completing the field are the entry of Burnt Hills and Pendleton Ridge, Country Day, Yonder, Duke’s Cup and Nasty Charger. All except Nasty Charger are eligible for the Triple Crown races.
Each starter will carry Kentucky Derby weight of 126 pounds.
