Brentwood School junior forward Alex Galbraith has been named the CIF-Southern Section offensive soccer player of the year in the 1-A Division. Selected on the All-1-A first team were Brentwood junior midfielder Holly Agajanian and Marymount sophomore forward Adrienne Smith. The second team included Marymount sophomore midfielder Gina Davis, Notre Dame Academy senior midfielder Julie Hansen, Brentwood junior defender Lara Sragow and Marymount senior defender Jill Stern.

Pepperdine University announced 18 athletes have signed letters of intent. They include baseball players Pat Ahearne of Los Angeles Harbor College, Keven Dell’Amico of Loyola High School, Curt Gossett of Glendora High, Damon Lembi of Burlingame and Lance Marks of Dana Hills High.

Basketball players are Steve Clover of Rolling Hills High, Dana Jones of North Hollywood High and Rodney Sanders of Fairfax High. Women basketball players include Aimee McDaniel of Brea Olinda High and Barbara Tanner of Thousand Oaks, a transfer from Oregon State.

Others are tennis players Ari Nathan of Brentwood School and Cary Lothringer of San Antonio, Tex., and volleyball players Mike Shannon of El Toro High and Greg Vernovase of Kingsley, Pa.

Women volleyball players are Rainy Chrisman and Erika Lawson, both of Mira Costa High; Jennifer Meredith of Torrey Pines High in San Diego and Barbara Stross of Potomac, Md.

Jane Willens of Los Angeles played on three winning doubles teams in the Southern California Tennis Assn.’s senior sectional tennis championships. She paired with Dee Williams-Horne of Pasadena for the women’s age 40 title, with Martin Erck of Santa Monica for the senior mixed championship and with daughter Sara for the mother-daughter crown.

Singles champions included Larry Barnett of Los Angeles, men’s age 30; Betsy Roberti and Dodo Cheney of Santa Monica, women’s 70, and Rollin Rhone of Culver City, men’s 35.

Men’s doubles winners included Ed Alston and Fred Scott of Los Angeles, age 50; Ed Kauder of Beverly Hills and King Lambert of Santa Ana, 60; Ralph Bleak of Los Angeles and Dan Walker of South Gate, 70, and Elbert Lewis of Los Angeles and Verne Hughes, Laguna Hills, 75.
