Godfather III: Verri Nice

COMPILED BY THE FASHION STAFF

The entire cast of “Godfather III”--including real-life romantic couple Al Pacino and Diane Keaton--is likely to be wearing the Verri label, an Italian line of clothing, for at least some scenes in the film. Approximately 500 garments from the fall ’90 collection (worth about $300,000) were given to the costume designer Milena Canonero by the line’s designers Pino Innocents and Leonardo Brugognone. A Verri boutique is scheduled to open soon in the Beverly Hills Rodeo Collection.

TURNSUIT: Remember mood rings--those tacky conversation pieces of the ‘60s that changed color as your hands changed temperature? They’re back, sort of. This time they’re bathing suits, or more correctly, Mood Suits. Manufactured by New York-based Dunk-Is Swimwear, the suits are made of a synthetic fabric that changes color with the temperature. When it’s wet or warm, blue turns to white, gold becomes fluorescent yellow and green becomes chartreuse. The suits retail for about $48. For information on stores, call (212) 391-2977.

THE PANTY LINE: The Intimate Apparel Council has proclaimed April 22 through 29 Lingerie Week. In New York there will be a show of lingerie past, present and future at Larosa, a mannequin showroom on West 22nd Street. Future offerings come in the form of a unitard from Natori, a mood suit from Lillyette that changes color with body temperature, and a gold bra and matching panties with attached garters from California designer Carol Maloney. Lingerie’s big exposure won’t happen in California until the next week, the council says, when the Broadway goes overboard for underwear.

FAUNA POWER: Joni Mitchell is the proud owner of a flower fur stole by L.A. designer Rachel London. She bought it at an auction this week and put it on right away to sing an impromptu duet with Eric Burden. He’s the former Animal--and the auction was to raise money for animal rights. London’s stole, by the way, is made of brown silk flowers, a fabric she calls flower fur. It is London’s “Don’t Kill the Mink” model.

PRETTY NICE: Julia Roberts was presented with a heart-stopping sparkler by Richard Gere in Touchstone’s new film “Pretty Woman.” The little bauble, from Fred Joaillier on Rodeo Drive, was a $213,500 necklace with 14 carats of diamonds and 23.5 carats of heart-shaped rubies. Alas, the script called for Gere to return the necklace. Which is good news for covetous ruby aficionados who will find it at Fred’s “Gem of a Sale,” which begins Saturday.
