Brides’ Pride

Share

The bride wore red. Not only at two New York fall fashion shows but, more to the point for most brides-to-be, on the latest cover of Soap Opera Digest. (Lucy Coe is marrying Alan Quartermaine on “General Hospital”--in crimson. The wedding airs next Thursday, the dress is by Susan Denison Geller.)

The runway reds were finale outfits by designers Arnold Scaasi and Isaac Mizrahi. Scaasi’s dress looked like a cherry-frosted wedding cake with a swirl of sequined tulle for a veil.

Mizrahi’s bridal dress with its scarf-point apron had Mongolian folkloric overtones.

But these weren’t the only departures from tradition seen in the New York collections.

Carolyne Roehm showed a pastel silk robe with an enormous shawl-like collar and very fitted sleeves--the sort of dress Mme. Pompadour might toss on for a soiree at home. And Bob Mackie tested the limits even further with a Pocahontas headdress over a gold sequined body-dress.
