A San Diego woman was resuscitated by lifeguards after she was pulled from a rip current at Ocean Beach on Sunday, authorities said.

Claudia Villeda, 18, and an unidentified friend were rescued after lifeguards saw them struggling to swim out of a current, said Lt. Brant Bass, a spokesman for the San Diego Lifeguard Service. Villeda’s friend was pulled from the water unharmed at 1:47 p.m., but it took lifeguards seven minutes to find Villeda, Bass said.

Villeda, pulled from the water without a pulse, was revived by paramedics and taken to Sharp Cabrillo Hospital at 2:20 p.m. She was transferred to Children’s Hospital.

The two women were seen walking in shallow water on the north side of the Little Rock Jetty about a quarter of a mile north of the Ocean Beach Pier, Bass said. The ocean floor is very uneven this time of the year, and they may have fallen into a deep spot and been swept out by the current, Bass said.
