A pipe bomb exploded early Monday in the 1800 block of 4th Avenue, and, although a few residents were awakened by the sound, the only damage was a broken window, officials said.
Police received a call about 1:30 a.m. Monday reporting what sounded like gun blasts, said Detective John Buono of the department’s arson investigations unit.
Police found that the bomb had been stuck under a chain-link fence between 1830 and 1840 4th Avenue and then ignited, Buono said. Police don’t know who placed the bomb there or why, he said.
