4 Commit to Cal Lutheran for Basketball

Four players have given verbal commitments to join the Cal Lutheran basketball team.

Ernie Bray said he is transferring from Whittier, where he played nine games last season, to Cal Lutheran. Bray, a 6-foot-2 guard and a 1989 graduate of Porterville High, said he will redshirt and have three years of college eligibility remaining.

Brannon Hays, a 6-4 forward, played 1 1/2 seasons at Southwestern College and said he will have two years of eligibility for the Kingsmen. He attended Marian High in Imperial Beach.

John Pletsch, a 6-7 center from Antelope Valley High, said he will attend Cal Lutheran. Pletsch averaged 10 points and 8.8 rebounds a game for the Antelopes, which won Golden League titles each of the past two seasons.

Bryan Cantwell, a 6-4 San Diegan from St. Augustine High, has also committed to Cal Lutheran.

Tressie Millender, a sophomore from the College of the Canyons women’s basketball team, signed a letted of intent Monday to play at Oregon.

Millender, a 5-10 forward, averaged 19.7 points and was selected the Western State Conference player of the year.

Today’s West Valley League baseball game between El Camino Real and Chatsworth highs has been moved to Chatsworth.

The 3 p.m. game, originally scheduled at Chatsworth, was moved because of a construction project at El Camino Real. An electric scoreboard is being installed in center field.

The teams also will play at Chatsworth on Thursday at 3.

Lindsay Orton, a 12-year-old gymnast from Sunland, finished eighth in the all-around competition at the Regional Gymnastics Level 10 meet Sunday in Phoenix and will advance to the national meet, to be held May 4-6 in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Orton is the state champion for girls age 12-14 in the vault, balance beam and floor exercise and is the only Californian to qualify for the national championships.
