Nation : School Boycott Over Holocaust
A couple skeptical that the Holocaust ever occurred pulled their 13-year-old daughter out of school because of a new state law requiring schools to teach about the Nazi atrocities of World War II.
Safet and Ingeborg Sarich said they will allow their daughter, Sanya, to return to eighth-grade classes at Washburne School only if she does not have to learn about what they called the “hate materials,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported today.
At issue is a state law that went into effect in January requiring all public schools to teach about the “Nazi atrocities of 1933 to 1945, the Holocaust, during which 6 million Jews and millions of non-Jews were exterminated.”
The Sarich family mailed letters objecting to Holocaust teachings to all Washburne teachers, 500 parents and the media.
