Cal State Advisory Committee to Meet
An advisory committee overseeing the environmental impact of a proposed Cal State University campus in Ventura County will meet for the first time.
The 9:30 a.m. Friday meeting at the Oxnard Hilton is open to the public, said Cal State Vice Chancellor John Smart.
The committee was set up to represent the county’s 10 cities and community groups interested in the proposal to locate the campus on the Taylor Ranch west of the city of Ventura.
University officials established the panel to give area residents an official voice in designing the environmental impact report.
Opponents contend that the site is not a central, convenient location and that it will contribute to the county’s traffic and air pollution problems. Supporters praise the site because it does not take agricultural land out of production.
