Loyola Will Hit the Road to San Diego for Three Games

Loyola Marymount, finishing a string of nine straight road games, resumes West Coast Conference baseball play with three games at the University of San Diego starting with a 2 p.m. game today. The same teams play a double header at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The eighth-ranked Lions, winners of a wild 11-10 game at UCLA on Wednesday that improved their record to 37-10, have won six straight games--all on the road--and 16 of their last 17. At 20-5 in the WCC, the Lions hold a three-game lead over Pepperdine. San Diego is in fourth place at 13-14 in the WCC and is 20-26 overall.

Loyola continues to batter the ball, hitting .341 as a team. Outfielder Rick Mediavilla, who had three hits against UCLA, leads the WCC with a .418 average, and Tony Kounas, hitting .383, is battling for the lead in home runs (14) and runs batted in (52). Tim Williams, hitting .337, and Miah Bradbury, at .342, each has 50 RBIs, and freshman shortstop Chris Gomez, hitting .360, leads the Lions with 18 doubles.

Jon Willard and Darryl Scott, both 10-2, lead the Loyola mound staff, while Joe Caruso has all five saves the Lions have earned.

San Diego’s Toreros are in the middle of the WCC pack in hitting at .292, and next to last in pitching with a 5.79 earned-run average.
