WEEKEND AT AFI FESTIVAL : SATURDAY
Following are The Times’ recommendations for today’s and Sunday’s schedule of the American Film Institute Los Angeles International Film Festival, with commentary by the film reviewing staff. Information: (213) 480-3232 or (213) 520-2000.
“HANDS UP!”(Poland, 1967/81; Director: Jerzy Skolimowski; Cineplex Odeon Fairfax, 9 p.m.). Jerzy Skolimowski’s dialogue with himself, from inside and outside his native land. The 1967 “Hands Up!,” a long-banned film that hastened his emigration, is a piece of black-and-white ‘60s agitprop: coded, youthful and fiery. Color sections shot in 1981 provide a more melancholy, reflective frame. (Michael Wilmington)
