An airman stationed at Edwards Air Force Base was killed early Saturday after he lost control of his motorcycle just outside Palmdale, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Minutes after the 2:10 a.m. crash at 10th Street West and Avenue N, a car struck the motorcyclist as he lay in the roadway, Sheriff’s Deputy Dennis Diederich said.

It was not immediately known whether the man died because of the initial crash or was killed when the car struck him, Diederich said.

The driver of the car was not injured, and she was not detained or cited, Diederich said.

It was not known what caused the motorcycle to go out of control, Diederich said.
