CAMARILLO : Zone Change Yields Police Station Land
The city of Camarillo came a step closer to gaining another police station when the Planning Commission approved the rezoning of 211 acres known as Pitts Ranch on Tuesday.
As part of the zoning change granted to Pardee Construction Co., four acres will be donated to the city for the construction of a police facility.
Camarillo has a contract with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department to provide police protection to the city. The new police station is proposed to replace the existing facility at the old City Hall.
The donation of land will help to eliminate the police facility fees normally charged to developers.
Camarillo officials are negotiating with the county to share in the cost of building the station.
“About 20% of the new facility would be used exclusively for county purposes,” said Larry Davis, Camarillo assistant city manager. Construction is expected to begin in about two years.
Another 16-acre parcel will be dedicated to the Pleasant Valley Recreation District for public use. The total value of the 20-acre donation was placed at about $1 million, according to Davis.
