Cutting to the Quick
California in Brief (April 27) had a devastating suggestion for cutting a $14-million deficit in a program that provides store vouchers to 500,000 women and children in danger of not getting adequate nutrition: Cutting “170,000 poor women and children” from the program
What are the powers-that-be thinking of to cut women and children most seriously affected already by the cuts in help for the poor and homeless? This cut, if allowed, will result in years of suffering and (possibly) even death for those who need help the most. The budget committee should find cuts someplace where they won’t cause human suffering.
