Mats Wilander said Wednesday he will miss the French Open, which he has won three times, and probably won’t play at Wimbledon.

Wilander, the former No. 1 player who has dropped out of the top 10, said he hasn’t played tennis since March and won’t be in condition in time to compete in Paris later this month.

“I need at least two or three weeks hard training to compete,” Wilander said. “After that, 15 to 20 matches are needed to reach peak form.”

Wilander, denying he is quitting the game, said he intended to stay on the circuit another two years.

“I am not bored with being at home yet,” he said. “Once I am, motivation will return and then I will start playing again.”

In other matches, fourth-seeded Jim Courier beat Bruno Oresar of Yugoslavia, 6-2, 6-1, and Thomas Muster of Austria defeated Magnus Gustafsson of Sweden, 7-5, 6-2.

Top-seeded Steffi Graf routed Nicole Provis of Australia, 6-0, 6-2, in the third round of the Citizen Cup at Hamburg, West Germany.

In second-round matches, second-seeded Martina Navratilova defeated Rachel McQuillan of Australia, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, and third-seeded Arantxa Sanchez Vicario of Spain defeated Barbara Rittner of West Germany, 6-4, 6-1.
