Developer’s Proposal for Condos Scaled Down

The Santa Clarita City Council has scaled back a developer’s plans to build 1,452 condominiums in Canyon Country, saying the 135-acre site might be better suited for 600 to 800 residential units.

After a 4 1/2-hour public hearing Wednesday night, the council set aside the original proposal by G.H. Palmer Associates, plus seven alternatives drafted last week by city planners and company representatives to address concerns of nearby homeowners who complained that the project was too big.

The alternatives, which the council rejected, ranged from 1,292 condominiums to 385 houses.

The council asked the developer to consider a combination of single-family homes and condos. Developer Dan Palmer said it was too soon to say whether he could comply with the council’s request.
