THOUSAND OAKS : Teacher to Undergo Drug Treatment

A Thousand Oaks high school teacher charged with possessing and being under the influence of cocaine has been placed in a drug rehabilitation program for first-time offenders.
Municipal Judge Thomas Hutchins placed Larry J. Johnson, 48, in a two-year rehabilitation program after Johnson admitted to authorities that he had used cocaine for several years.
If Johnson successfully completes the program, criminal charges filed against him in February will be dismissed, Deputy Dist. Atty. Donna Thonis said.
William Seaver, superintendent of the Conejo Valley Unified School District, opposed the judge’s ruling. He said the district will begin proceedings to dismiss Johnson from his $40,000-a-year job.
Johnson was arrested Jan. 31 at Newbury Park High School after an employee reported seeing him with a vial believed to contain cocaine. The vial was later determined to be heart medication, but traces of cocaine were later found in Johnson’s urine.
He was rearrested Feb. 6 after sheriff’s investigators found cocaine in Johnson’s Moorpark home.
