When the U.S. Census Bureau mailed those decennial forms, it hoped for a 70% return. Just one of the four Census Districts in Orange County had met that goal as of April 25. This week census takers began to go door-to-door to account for those refusing to return the Bureau’s missives. Here’s how the four districts responded:

Census District: BUENA PARK DISTRICT--Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Fountain Valley,Huntington Beach, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Unincorporated areas of Sunset Beach and Surfside Questionnaires Mailed: 201,370 Questionnaires Received: 141,153 Percentage Received: 70.0 Census District: FULLERTON DISTRICT--Anaheim, Brea, Fullerton, La Habra, Orange, Placentia, Villa Park, Yorba Linda Questionnaires Mailed: 230,539 Questionnaires Received: 159,418 Percentage Received: 69.2 Census District: IRVINE DISTRICT--Dana Point, El Toro, Irvine, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Silverado, Trabuco Canyon, Tustin, and all Unincorporated areas south of Newport Beach Questionnaires Mailed: 283,581 Questionnaires Received: 183,548 Percentage Received: 64.7 Census District: SANTA ANA DISTRICT--Garden Grove, Midway City, Santa Ana, Stanton, Westminster Questionnaires Mailed: 179,316 Questionnaires Received: 113,739 Percentage Received: 63.4 COUNTY TOTAL: Questionnaires Mailed: 894,806 Questionnaires Received: 597,858 Percentage Received: 66.8 Source: Census Districts listed
