Foothill Officials Didn’t Get Message of Student Sit-In

Share

On April 25, the majority of Foothill High students staged a sit-in, but many here at Foothill feel that the message did not get across. While some were out there because it was an opportunity to ditch class, the majority of the students were out there to protest the injustices toward the education that we have been receiving.

The teachers of Tustin have been working without contracts for 10 months and refuse to go on strike. Instead (since the Tustin school board and the Tustin educators had not reached an agreement), the teachers decided to take action by stopping all extracurricular activities that they were not paid for and most of the teachers decided to stop giving homework.

The sit-in was to show the teachers that we support them and tell the school board that we want our education back. As one of the Foothill students who sat in, I feel that our point was not made to the extent that the students hoped for. Why should the students have to suffer? It is the students’ right to get an education, but the way these negotiations are going, it might be better to stay home.
