LOCAL : $250,000 Motel Fire Near Disneyland Under Investigation
An early morning fire swept through two units of a motel near Disneyland, causing $250,000 damage, authorities said today.
Fire officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze that broke out shortly after 4 a.m. at the Saga Motel in the 1600 block of South Harbor Boulevard.
No injuries were reported.
Anaheim Fire Department Division Chief Ron Hamric said an occupant of one of the burned units called 911 after smelling smoke in his room.
Forty Anaheim firefighters, assisted by a unit from the Orange Fire Department, took 14 minutes to control the fire, Hamric said.
Hamric said quick work by firefighters prevented an additional $2 million in damage.
“We were lucky that everything worked well,” Hamric said. “The smoke alarms sounded . . . and we got there right in time to prevent a disaster.”
