‘Grand Hotel,’ ‘City of Angels’ Top Tony Nominees: The musicals “Grand Hotel” and “City of Angels” topped the list of Broadway’s annual Tony Awards nominations. “Grand Hotel” received 12 nominations and “City of Angels” received nominations in 11 categories, including best musical. Other best musical nominees were “Aspects of Love” and “Meet Me in St. Louis.” Best play nominees were “The Piano Lesson,” which won the Pulitzer Prize for drama; “Lettice and Lovage,” “Prelude to a Kiss” and “The Grapes of Wrath.” Nominees for best actor in a play were: Charles S. Dutton, “The Piano Lesson”; Dustin Hoffman, “The Merchant of Venice”; Tom Hulce, “A Few Good Men”; and Robert Morse, “Tru.” Actress nominations went to Geraldine James, “The Merchant of Venice”; Mary-Louise Parker, “Prelude to a Kiss”; Maggie Smith, “Lettice and Lovage”; and Kathleen Turner, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” Winners will be announced June 3.
