TUSTIN, IRVINE : Agencies Celebrate Jamboree Extension

Officials from four cities, the county, the Irvine Co. and the Marine Corps on Monday stood in the shadows of huge military helicopter hangars to celebrate the expected September, 1991, completion of Jamboree Road through the Marine Corps Air Station in Tustin.
The $26-million extension project, which will create an east-west link between the Santa Ana and San Diego freeways, was made possible by cooperation between the cities of Irvine and Tustin, the Marine Corps and the Irvine Co., officials said.
The one-mile extension between Warner Avenue and Edinger Avenue has been planned since the early 1970s, but construction didn’t begin until March.
“Its unique for a project to be carried for that length of time and still come to fruition,” observed William Woollett Jr., former Irvine city manager and current chairman of the countywide Transportation Corridor Agency. “And the most impressive thing in my judgment is that the (government agencies) were all willing to address problems together.”
