Casino Will Be Razed

The former Horseshoe Club in Gardena, the city’s oldest casino, will be razed in the coming months and replaced with a modern shopping center.

The Gardena City Council approved plans Tuesday night for the 38,500-square-foot development at Rosecrans and Vermont avenues. The shopping center, approved by the Planning Commission last month, will feature two fast-food restaurants and a variety of other businesses. It will be developed by Emil Neshanian of Encino.

When the 41-year-old club closed last May, Gardena was left with only the Eldorado Club and the Normandie Casino, compared to six clubs a decade ago.
