New Superintendent Is First Latino to Hold Post
Richard Aguilar, an associate superintendent of the Richmond Unified School District, this week was named superintendent of the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District.
The seven-member Board of Education voted 7-0 to appoint the 50-year-old educator, who was given a three-year contract at an annual salary of $92,000.
Aguilar is the first Latino to head the district, which has more than 18,000 students, most of whom are Latino. He begins work immediately, replacing Bruce C. Newlin, who resigned last June to become superintendent of the Ceres school system in Central California.
