Louisville Player Has 3 Hits in Big Inning

Associated Press

Bernard Gilkey had three of Louisville’s 14 hits in the third inning as the Redbirds scored 16 runs and beat Nashville, 18-4, in an American Assn. game Wednesday night.

Officials said Gilkey set a minor league record, but it could not be verified immediately. He had two singles and a three-run home run.

Four major league players have had three hits in an inning--Gene Stephens of the Boston Red Sox doing it last on June 18, 1953, when he had two singles and a double.

Tom Burns (two doubles, home run), Fred Pfeffer (two singles, double) and Ed Williamson (two singles, double) all did it for Chicago of the National League in 1883.
