Mariano Duncan of the Cincinnati Reds was suspended for one game today by National League President Bill White for bumping umpire Mark Hirschbeck earlier this week.

Duncan also was fined an undisclosed amount. The suspension was effective immediately, which meant Duncan would sit out tonight’s home game against the Chicago Cubs.

Duncan was suspended for running into Hirschbeck in the third inning at Pittsburgh last Wednesday night. Duncan threw his helmet and charged the third-base umpire after being thrown out trying to steal.

Duncan had to be restrained by third base coach Sam Perlozzo, and was immediately ejected.
