WORLD IN BRIEF : AUSTRALIA : Chartered Plane Crashes; 11 Aboard

A chartered jet carrying 11 people crashed on a steep slope near Mt. Emerald in north Queensland state, officials said. The crew of an army helicopter spotted the wreckage of the Cessna Citation about 10 miles south of Mareeba, but was unable to see whether there were survivors, said Richard Smith, spokesman for the emergency center at Brisbane Airport.
