ONLY MAKE BELIEVE: The Pretenders have a new album due out at the end of the month, titled “Packed.” Produced by Mitchell Froom, the record features a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “May This Be Love” as well as such originals as “Never Do That,” “Let’s Make a Pact,” “Downtown” and “When Will I See You,” co-written by Chrissie Hynde and (sometime Pretenders) guitarist Johnny Marr. . . . Paul McCartney’s liner-note testimonial arrived too late for the original CD press-run of the Beach Boys’ classic “Pet Sounds” album, which will be released this week by Capitol Records, so you might want to wait till the second printing before buying it. . . . And our Pick of the Week on the local band circuit is Circadian Rhythm, who’ll be playing with the Leonards Friday at the Palomino. The Long Beach-based band has just released a new self-titled EP that features the band’s signature song, “You Bring Me Down.”
