Georgia Tech’s Dennis Scott, the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, announced today he will forgo his senior year to enter the June 27 NBA draft.

Scott, projected by NBA scouts as a top five pick, made his announcement at a news conference at the school.

“It was a tough decision,” Scott said. “But I weighed the pros and cons and decided to enter the 1990 draft. I just think now is the time to move on.”

Scott, 6-8 and 230 pounds, was primarily a forward during his three seasons at Tech but is projected as a shooting guard in the pros.

The 21-year-old from Reston, Va., led the ACC in scoring and helped the Yellow Jackets to the NCAA Final Four before Tech lost to eventual national champion Nevada-Las Vegas in the semifinals.

Scott averaged 15.5 points as a freshman and was named the ACC’s freshman of the year. As a sophomore, he averaged 20.3 points a game. This past season Scott lifted his average to 27.7 points per game. He ranks third on Tech’s all-time scoring list, with 2,115 points.
