Nearly $18 million was gained by county cities during April as as result of the state of California’s latest disbursement of sales and use tax revenues. Another $900,000 was received by county government agencies, making the county’s total take $18,791,945. That’s a 25% decrease from the March outlay received locally.

Anaheim and Santa Ana were the two largest beneficiaries, taking in $4.4 million between them, for 24% of the total. Costa Mesa, though, received by far the highest per capita amount--$17.59 for each resident. At the other end of the spectrum on both counts was Villa Park with its $2,245 total (32 cents per resident).

The $18.8 million received here was more than the amounts sent to either Riverside, San Bernardino or San Diego counties, but only about a third of what Los Angeles County took in. Orange County had the highest per capita amount of any of the five counties, though.

Each month, city and county governments and other governmental organizations receive payments from the state in anticipation of actual sales tax revenues. In the fourth month, they receive a cleanup payment--the difference between actual revenues and the amounts previously received--plus the first advance payment for the next quarter. The amounts listed here are for the second advance payment of the first quarter of 1990.
