A 21-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and member of the special weapons team suffered a major head injury Friday when a porch collapsed on him as deputies tore open a house allegedly used by cocaine dealers in the 400 block of East Century Boulevard in Watts.
The injured officer, who was not identified, was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood where he was to undergo surgery, said Sheriff’s Sgt. Joaquin Herren.
The special weapons team had torn the windows and doors off the house before entering because they said they had information that the occupants were armed. A pistol and a shotgun, both loaded, were inside but deputies found only a half-ounce of rock cocaine, Herren said.
Booked on suspicion of narcotics sales were Milton Hasley Jr., 30, Robert Hodges, 23, and Toris Smith, 25.
