Ten permanent employees of the California Department of Fish and Game in Southern California and the Eastern Sierra have been temporarily reassigned to fish hatchery duty to maintain normal operations in the wake of layoffs of seasonal employees last week.
The temporary plan is expected to last until May 29, when personnel from the California Conservation Corps will become available at no expense to the DFG. Until then, Region 5 spokesman Curt Taucher said there may be fewer fish plants, but the overall volume will remain about the same.
