Groovy Kind of Award: “A Groovy Kind of Love” was named Song of the Year on Tuesday at the Broadcast Music Inc. Pop Awards for being 1989’s most played pop composition. Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds were named songwriters of the year at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel gala. “Never My Love,” written by Richard Addrisi and his brother, the late Donald Addrisi, was certified as a 5 Million-Performance song, only the second in BMI’s repertoire to reach that airplay milestone. “Yesterday” by Paul McCartney and John Lennon was first.
