An exhibition of nine works by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) has opened at the Norton Simon Museum of Art, 411 W. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena. The museum is open from noon to 6 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Admission is $4.
The works range from Van Gogh’s early period in Holland to brilliantly colored paintings from his last years in the south of France. Among them are “Head of a Peasant Woman in a White Bonnet,” top, painted in 1885 and “Portrait of a Peasant,” painted in 1888.
Van Gogh is the best-known of the post-Impressionists who transformed the traditional painting of external forms into the modern painting of internal realities.
The museum’s permanent collection includes European works from the Renaissance to mid-20th Century. On view are paintings by Raphael, Rembrandt, Goya, Renoir, Matisse, Monet and Gauguin.
