TENNIS ROUNDUP : U.S. Beaten in Team Play
Yugoslavia, making its first appearance in the $1.3-million ATP World Team Cup, upset the United States, 2-1, in the final Sunday at Dusseldorf, West Germany.
Goran Prpic beat Brad Gilbert, 6-4, 6-4, then Goran Ivanisevic upset Jim Courier, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, to clinch the victory. The U.S. doubles team of Ken Flach and Robert Seguso defeated Prpic and Slobodan Zivojinovic, 7-5, 7-6.
Richard Fromberg of Australia beat Marc Rosset of Switzerland, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), and won the Bologna International in Italy; Barbara Paulus of Austria rallied to beat third-seeded Canadian Helen Kelesi, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3), in the final of the Geneva European Open, and Argentina’s Mercedes Paz defeated Ann Grossman, 6-2, 6-3, in the final of the Strasbourg Open in France.
