La Jolla Festival of the Arts

More than 100 artists from all over the country will display and sell their work during the fourth annual La Jolla Festival of the Arts and Food Faire slated for Saturday and Sunday at La Jolla Country Day School. The exhibition’s proceeds will go to benefit various programs for San Diegans with disabilities.

Sponsored by the Torrey Pines Kiwanis Foundation and the Easter Seal Society of San Diego County, the event will also feature a wide array of foods from around the world, including Oriental, Mexican, German, Mediterranean and Italian.

More than $2 million in artwork, including watercolors, oils, sculpture, serigraphs, jewelry and photography, will be on display and for sale. Several local artists will be among the many national artists participating in this year’s festival.

Mary Helmreich, a watercolorist from Encinitas, will display her cityscapes and landscapes. Justin Coopersmith of Solana Beach will show his paper and acrylic paintings.

Other festival works include nature watercolors by Diane Clapp Bartz, acrylic/reliefs by Andy Lakey, photography by Dallas Clites, and cloisonne/ceramics by Stanley Tiger. Agnes Copeland has been commissioned to create this year’s festival poster featuring an artistic impression of a La Jolla scene. The poster will be on sale at the event.

Last year’s festival drew more than 10,000 people and more than 20,000 are expected this year.

California Festivals magazine rated the La Jolla Festival of the Arts and Food Faire as the number one art show in San Diego County.
