Four men wearing ski masks and jumpsuits, each armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, robbed a Department of Motor Vehicles office Tuesday and fled in a janitor’s pickup, deputies said.

The suspects approached a janitor at the DMV office at 9520 E. Artesia Blvd. in Bellflower about 4 a.m. as the worker left the building to throw out trash, Sheriff’s Deputy Roger Hom said.

The masked men forced the unidentified janitor into the building and bound him, Hom said. The suspects waited inside until another employee arrived at 5:30 a.m. The men forced her to open the office safe and then tied her up.

Within the next half an hour, six more employees arrived and were forced into a back room where they, too, were bound.

The robbers fled about 6 a.m. with an unspecified amount of cash in the janitor’s 1962 blue Chevrolet pickup truck, Hom said.
