MASSACRE: Orange County’s worst massacre was not done with an AK-47 or any other high-powered firearm. . . . A .22-caliber rifle, the kind kids get at Christmas for target shooting, was used by Edward Charles Allaway to kill seven people. A janitor at Cal State Fullerton, Allaway walked through the campus library on July 12, 1976, on a 10-minute rampage. He then turned himself in, was declared insane, went to Atascadero State Hospital and is still there.
